"Aero 30" Tethered Balloon

Tethered balloon of the superlative for up to 30 passengers

As high as a ten-story house – the "Aero 30" from Ballonbau Wörner is the largest approved tethered balloon for passenger flights in the world. Its volume capacity is 6000 m³. Inflated with helium, it develops a carrying capacity for lifting up to 30 passengers, who fly in a special gondola. With a lifting height of max. 150 meters (500 ft), it offers the passengers a gorgeous view over attractions, cities or any other large area site.

Ideal for sponsors as an eye-catching advertising medium

Already millions of passengers the world over have experienced a flight with the "Aero 30" over the most extraordinary locations across the globe. As a huge public magnet, and due to its enormous prominence, it also offers an ideal advertising medium, which creates the most possible attention to a brand. This makes the "Aero 30" interesting for sponsors as well. Using sponsoring, a tethered balloon system can be financed easier and thus supports amortization.

Absolute "high-light" due to integrated light unit

A "high-light" in the truest sense of the word - especially the "Aero 30" in the dark. The balloon can be illuminated from the inside on request via an integrated light unit and then radiates as a giant, illuminated ball in the night sky.

Technically and visually it is really "top flight"

The sophisticated technology of the "Aero 30" facilitates outstandingly safe and comfortable operation. The durable, electro-hydraulic cable winch enables a fast ascent and safe landing. Our specially developed anchoring system also makes the balloon robust during a storm and avoids the deflation and loss of expensive helium. Important control mechanisms can be operated via a touchpanel control system and they simultaneously provide important flight data, which help to keep the balloon within the allowable operating limits.

FAQ

Technical FAQ
What sizes do you offer?

The AERO 30 is available in one size. It has a volume of 6.000 m³ (211,888 cuft).

What are the dimensions of the balloon?

Standing on the ground the height of the balloon is 34 m (111.55 ft). Its diameter is about 22 m (72.18 ft), its circumference about 70 m (229.66 ft).

Is it possible to fill the balloon with hydrogen?

No, only helium is certified and safe.

What is the lifting capacity of 1m³ helium?

1 m ³ Helium lifts 10 N ̴ 1 kg.

What is the lifting capacity of the balloon?

The lifting capacity is about 3000 kg.

How gastight is the balloon?

The low leakage of our special new balloon material is such that the balloon requires an average refilling of less than 70 m³( 2,473 cuft) per month, over the whole lifetime of the balloon.

What is the lifetime of the balloon?

Depending on the site and the operation frequency, the lifetime is about 5 – 8 years.

What advertising is possible?

It is possible to choose different colored fabric gores for each gore of the envelope. In addition to the printing/paintwork on the envelope, it is also possible to use flexible and removable banners to fulfill any specific operating requirements.

Operational FAQ
What are the requirements on the installation site?

The site should be free of obstacles higher than 3 m (9.84 ft) within a diameter of 60 m (196.85 ft). A centered funnel of 90° opening towards the sky must be completely free of obstacles. Eight restraint points, evenly distributed around the balloon, with a radius of 30 m (98.43 ft), have to be freely accessible. The winch further requires a 3×380V power supply.

How sensitive is the system with respect to wind speed?

The maximum wind speed for operation is 13 m/s (25 knots).

Up to what wind speed can the balloon remain inflated while anchored to the ground?

It is recommended to deflate the balloon at wind speeds of more than 110 km/h (> 33m/s).

How long does the balloon stay inflated?

The balloon normally remains inflated except for too high wind speeds.

How long does it take to ascend and descend?

Flying up to a max. altitude of 150 m (492 ft), six flying cycles per hour are possible.

What is the ascent and descent speed?

The ascent speed is 50 m/min.
The descent speed is 40 m/min.

What is the maximum ascent altitude?

The balloon ascends to a maximum altitude of 150 m (492 ft).

From which distance is the balloon visible?

In good weather, the balloon can be seen from a distance of 20 km (12 mi). With extra equipment, it can be illuminated for better visibility at night.

How many passengers can be on board?

A maximum of 30 passengers, depending on the wind speed.

What are the staff requirements?

The minimum is two to three pilots with hot air balloon licenses. Two additional employees are also required as ground personnel. All staff require a three week training course provided by Aérophile.
